Week of February 26 - March 2

Welcome to a new week full of learning in 3B!

This week in Spalding we will continue to add words to our Spalding Notebooks. We will also complete Rule Page 3 on which we learn Rule 10. Rule 10 states: Words of multiple syllables (begin) in which the second syllable (gin) is accented and ends in one consonant, with one vowel before it, need another final consonant (be gin' + ning) before adding a suffix that begins with a vowel. Confusing as this may sound now, ask your scholar about it on Wednesday or Thursday and they will be able to explain it to you beautifully! We will have a spelling and phonogram test on Friday as well as our monthly Morrison McCall 50 word test.

In math this week we will begin our unit on Area and Perimeter. Through hands on experiences we will discover that area is the amount of flat space a shape covers and perimeter is the distance around the outside of the shape. We will have a quiz over area on Thursday.

Language arts this week includes reading and narrating (both orally and in writing) a selection from the book Babe: the Gallant Pig. We will also be reviewing the four types of sentences.

In literature we continue our journey through Little House on the Prairie. We will have a comprehension quiz on Tuesday over chapters 18-21. We will also have a seminar discussion on Friday.

This week we turn to science and continue our exploration of the classification of animals.

A look ahead:
March 9: No school - ACTE in-service.
March 12 - 16: Spring Break!

Week of February 19 - 23

I trust that you have had a restful weekend thus far and have plans for fun and rest tomorrow. I am excited to see everyone back in the classroom on Tuesday! Our week will be packed full of learning, as always!

This week in Spalding we will add 20 new words to our Spalding notebooks. We will have a spelling and phonogram test on Friday.

In math this week we will begin our unit on Angles. We will learn to identify and define acute, obtuse, and right angles. We will have a test on Friday.

Language arts this week includes writing a key word outline and using that outline to form a beautiful summary. We will then edit this writing and write a final draft. Over the weekend scholars will type their summary.

In literature we continue our journey through Little House on the Prairie. We are enjoying reading through the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder and discussing the concepts of safety and home in our biweekly seminar discussions. We do not have a seminar discussion this week, however, we will have a comprehension quiz on Tuesday over chapters 15-17.

This week in History we continue our exploration of the Norsemen and Vikings. We have enjoyed learning of their life, trade, culture and government. We will have a history test on Friday.

Thank you for your continued support assign typing homework once a week. We have the opportunity to use school computers most Wednesdays to practice typing in class, but feel that it is important that our scholars have extra practice in preparation for the April AZ Merit test.

Thank you for the opportunity to teach your wonderful children!
